The earliest recorded history of Frelsburg is when Capt. Wilhelm Frels returned from winning the Texas Revolutionary War at San Jacinto. He settled on the bank of what would become known as Piepers Creek in the northern part of what would become Colorado County.
Since he was Germanic, his home became a place that Germanic immigrants would check in with as they were moving to their new land. It later became sensible that he would keep some of the necessities that those folks needed in their new homes. After that, it was only natural that his place be appointed as the post office for the area. Since it needed an address, the settlement became known as Frelsburg.
